Creating Stronger Bonds with our Community
Lennons is delighted to announce our Charity of the Year for 2018 will be William’s Fund.
William was diagnosed with cancer when he was 2 years old and sadly died at the age of 4. Cancer is the most common cause of death in children aged 1 to 14 years in the UK, accounting for around one-fifth of deaths in this age group. Despite this, very little money is spent on researching childhood cancer and so, following the loss of their beloved son to cancer, William’s Fund was established in December 2000 by William’s mother, Johanna Dodd.
Inspired by William’s strength and character throughout his fight with cancer, William’s Fund has so far raised over £850,000, all of which has gone into researching cancer in children and the complex differences between treatment in children and adults.
One of Lennons’ owners, Andrew King, commented; “This new partnership with William’s Fund is very rewarding for us as it not only enables both the company and our staff to support the charity but will also help to spread awareness of the need to raise funds for childhood cancer research.”
Johanna has dedicated the last 18 years of her life to fund raising and neither she, nor any other supporters of William’s Fund take a wage or claim expenses. All donations and fund raising go directly to their own research facility in Oxford.
Johanna says she is delighted that William’s Fund has been chosen as Lennons’ charity of the year. “In our drive to reach £1m for childhood cancer research in Oxford, we hope the collaboration with Lennons will help us reach this goal and raise the profile of William’s Fund. Reaching £1m will open so many more doors for the researchers. We are looking forward to working with this vibrant Lennons team.”
