We’ve been at the heart of Chesham for 40 years. On 1 September 1983, Alan Lennon set up business as a sole practitioner, providing a range of litigation services to the people of Buckinghamshire.

Alan Lennon first recruited Andy Coyle – Non-Executive Director and former Managing Director- to work with him during the summer of 1986, whilst Andy completed his law degree. After a successful summer, Alan invited Andy to work with him again the following year.

After a second summer working with Alan Lennon, Andy Coyle joined the firm in a full-time position to become the first articled clerk – a trainee solicitor – in August 1988.
Andy developed his skills in non-contentious legal work – first conveyancing, will drafting and probate matters, before moving towards commercial property and corporate work.

Alan Lennon continued to develop the litigation practice during the early 1990s, with particular focus on family law and personal injury matters. With the firm growing and developing a good reputation for having a range of legal expertise, a larger office was required. In 1994, Lennons moved to Broadway Court in Chesham, where we still are today.

In 1998, Lennons merged with Amersham-based law firm, Wainwrights, after Jill Wainwright retired to become a judge. With Wainwrights being a well-established local practice known primarily for their family law and conveyancing work, the combined firm enjoyed a wide range of expertise and experience. Jenny Russell, a former partner at Wainwrights, became a partner at Lennons and our compliance director.

With the firm going from strength to strength, Alan Lennon sought to employ more talented young solicitors. Andrew King – Managing Director – joined the firm as a trainee solicitor in June.

The former partnership of Lennon & Co was incorporated as a limited company in 2011 as Lennons Solicitors Limited. When Alan Lennon sadly passed away in 2011, he left behind a long-standing legal practice with an excellent reputation for serving clients with skill, tenacity and good humour.

With a continued focus of providing clear, honest advice to the individuals and businesses of Buckinghamshire, Lennons continued to expand during the 2010s. We opened our third office in 2017, in Beaconsfield, reflecting our commitment to the local area.

Gavin Henshaw, former Head of our Family Law Department was appointed as a Director on 1 July. The family department went from strength to strength as a result of Gavin’s management.

In July, Andrew King became Managing Director, having started his legal career at the company in 2006

In March, Teresa Fawcett-Mitchell and Jo Hamill were promoted to Directors.

Lennons opened its fourth office in Tring, Hertfordshire, on 3 April.

In April, Sophie Cisler was promoted to Director.

In September, Lennons turned 40 years old and celebrated serving clients and communities across The Chilterns since 1983
