They can be applied for immediately without notice in very serious cases, or otherwise at short notice. They provide essential protection from violence, threats and harassment – with legal consequences for anyone who breaches the order.
An occupation order decides who is able to live at a property, while a non-molestation order can be applied for to provide protection. The police may also be able to take action under the Protection from Harassment Act.
