The Virtual Workspace: 50 Tips for Effective Video Conferencing – the book has now been released!
by Laxmi Mall
We are delighted to announce that Andrew King, our Director and specialist litigation solicitor, has now released his brand new book – The Virtual Workspace: 50 Tips for Effective Video Conferencing – available to download now as an eBook on Amazon!
With a shift towards home working, lawyers and non-lawyers are forced to embrace technology and to stumble through the ‘new normal’ of video conferencing and virtual meetings. Whilst the tips are particularly relevant to those in the legal sector, as this book is inspired from Andrew’s experience of a Skype Trial, this book is also helpful to those in all manner of commercial and formal meeting situations – whether that is an employment disciplinary meeting, sales pitch, job interview or any other formal virtual conference or meeting situation.
What had previously only been 30 tips, quickly grew to become a popular Twitter thread of tips relied upon by many legal and non-legal professionals around the world. In fact, Melissa Castan, Associate Professor in Law from Australia, found the tips were ‘useful and important’ in the Covid-19 era and that they were ‘also relevant for [her] teaching’. As the thread’s popularity grew, we saw an increase in professionals chipping in with their own tips – including Max Duddles, Mental Health Law specialist solicitor from Leicestershire, whose tip about ensuring your electronic device is capable of supporting multiple screens to avoid it crashing during a video conference, is featured in the book!
Through the replies to Andrew’s Twitter thread, we have noticed professionals being generous and sharing their tips from their personal experiences to help each other during this shift towards remote working. Gordon Exall, renowned barrister with a fantastic legal blog, takes notice of the ‘remarkable generosity of spirit’, and finds Andrew’s book to be ‘very much part of that spirit of generosity’ [foreword].
The Virtual Workspace: 50 Tips for Effective Video Conferencing is out now in eBook format! Available for FREE download until Friday, 1 May 2020. After Friday, it will cost £3.95, a small charge, but all profits will go towards NHS Charities Together. The paperback version will be available later on this week. We hope you will find Andrew’s book to be useful as reference during your video conferencing journey and we welcome you to leave a review on Amazon with your thoughts on the book.
