Jo Elder passes mediation training
Jo Elder, a solicitor in the family team at Lennons Solicitors recently passed her Family Mediation Council (FMC) approved mediation training.
She undertook eight training sessions between September and November 2023, during which she covered the theories and principles of family mediation and the ethical working framework. She also covered areas such as conflict resolution between separating couples, the emotional and phycological effects of separation on each party and any children involved, power imbalances, safeguarding and child protection and the requirements and importance of disclosure.
Mediation enables people to listen to each other in a safe environment and can improve communication. Further, as the parties are able to reach their own agreements without court intervention, these agreements are more likely to stand the test of time”.
Following confirmation of her pass just before Christmas, Jo now begins her continuing development to accreditation, which will include being supervised by a professional practice consultant (PPC) who are themselves experienced mediators. The PPC will provide guidance and support so that Jo can begin her practice and work on a portfolio for submission to evidence the skills used and also to reflect on learning outcomes. Once accredited, this support will continue. Mediators need to be re-accredited every three years.
Jo said, “I’m really looking forward to helping couples in dispute to resolve matters in a more conciliatory way, to move forward individually and together where there are children are involved.”
Denise Bullock, Senior Solicitor and Head of Family Law at Lennons commented, “Jo’s accomplishment is a real testament to her commitment and expertise. I’m very excited for the expansion of the services provided for by our Family Law Team. In addition to our unique offering, Jo Elder’s mediation qualification will no doubt, further enable us to boost and improve outcomes for separating couples.”
